Custom Lanyards: Give the Badge as Much Thought as the Strap

A lanyard order is a strap, clip and credential working together. Check the whole arrangement before approving the logo.

It is easy to spend most of the artwork review discussing the printed strap. At the event, people may spend more time trying to read the badge hanging from it.

Begin with the badge

Confirm the credential dimensions and how it sits in the holder. Check the attachment point and whether the complete arrangement hangs at a useful height. A change in holder can alter the result even when the strap stays the same.

For a networking event, names should be readable. For staff identification, the role may need greater emphasis. These decisions help determine the badge rather than the other way around.

Narrow artwork needs discipline

On a strap, long company names and detailed artwork can become difficult to read. Ask for the decoration dimensions, print the layout at size and inspect the repeat direction.

Look at both hanging sides. The layout should make sense when the strap is worn, not just when it lies flat on a proof.

Specify the attachment deliberately

Clips, holders and any safety release should match the setting. Do not assume every custom lanyard comes with the same hardware.

Finally, decide whether items should arrive assembled or as separate components. That small packing decision can save an organiser a lengthy evening of attaching badges before the doors open.
